Traineeships
Staying competitive is the key to sustainability. Training your staff, keeping them motivated and up-to-date with industry trends and new technologies is essential to achieving that goal. Staff benefit too, learning new skills and becoming a valued asset in any organisation.
Training brings direct benefits to business and can be calculated as a return on investment. Regardless of the size or type of an industry or business, training can have a measurable Impact on performance and the bottom line.
A traineeship is a full-time or part-time employment based training arrangement. During the course of a traineeship, a trainee gains work experience and has the opportunity to learn new skills in a hands-on environment. On successful completion, the trainee earns a nationally recognised qualification. All of the training is undertaken on-the-job.
Traineeship Program Objectives
- To provide high quality, accessible training to trainees in declared callings
- To contribute to the development of a responsive training market
- To provide quality, cost effective training
- To support the training requirements of the industry
- To enhance the flexibility of training delivery
- To create opportunity for those who may otherwise be disadvantaged in their access to vocational training, for example, those working full time and are unable to attend off-site training
Benefits to Employers
- May be eligible for a financial incentive of up to $4000 per employee undertaking training, less a compulsory administration fee of $404 per year
- Staff turnover and recruitment costs are reduced because staff recognise traineeships as an incentive, and feel valued by their employers who provide them with training that leads to recognised qualifications.
- Staff become more committed to their jobs and more productive in their work.
- Employers gain staff who are higher skilled to perform their jobs, and able to work independently.
- Experienced staff can mentor those with less experience as part of their level III and IV traineeships.
- Staff are not lost to study leave. All training is done on the job.
- The training consultant visits the student at the workplace.
- May be exempt from paying payroll tax for the student/s.
Research* shows that productivity increases while training takes place. Staff who receive formal training can be 230 per cent more productive than untrained colleagues who are working in the same role. Source: Smith A., 2001
